Water supply milestone enables next phase of Gawilan Community Garden
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, the Gawilan Community Garden project has reached a significant milestone. Lemon Tree Trust team members have successfully installed a vital water supply infrastructure, paving the way for the development of a vibrant community garden in Gawilan refugee camp.

After a summer break due to extreme temperatures, our team, led by Othman and Hamid, we are excited to announce that a stand for the water tank has been built, and the pipeline has been extended from a nearby borehole. This critical step ensures that the garden will have access to a steady water supply.
“Water is everything here,” says Othman. “This infrastructure will help transform the space into a green sanctuary for the community.”
Community engagement

The community garden will not only provide fresh produce but also serve as a gathering place for residents, fostering connections and encouraging collaboration. Through various gardening competitions and initiatives, the garden will help strengthen bonds among residents and promote a sense of belonging.
In addition to the water supply work, we have been actively engaging with the community. Recently, our team gifted Sidra Tea Blend to Gawilan residents, made from herbs and flowers grown, harvested and dried, at our flagship community garden in Domiz 1 camp. This initiative sparked meaningful conversations about the new garden and encouraged residents to participate in upcoming gardening activities.
Support and funding

Since launching the Gawilan Community Garden Appeal, we have raised £5,433 GBP ($7,139 USD), and with match funding, that amount has doubled to an impressive £10,866 GBP ($14,278 USD). This incredible support from our donors is crucial in making the vision of a thriving community garden a reality.
However, the project is not finished yet. Every additional donation will be matched, further doubling the impact and helping us achieve our goals. With continued support, we aim to create a space where residents can reconnect with nature, grow their own food, and benefit from the healing power of gardening.
“We are grateful for the incredible generosity of our supporters,” Othman shares. “Together, we can build a green haven that brings hope and resilience to the Gawilan community.”
